TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1

PreK-12th grade students will have their pictures taken on Tuesday, October 1.

Students should make a special effort to be at school this day since there is no picture make-up day for absent students. Students are expected to dress up for Picture Day.

Your student brought home an order form for Picture Day. Make sure you complete this and send it with your child ON PICTURE DAY. We do not collect these ahead of time. The photographer will take it from your student on Picture Day.

For Girls:
A blouse and skirt or a dress is preferred for the ladies (dresses and skirts must reach the knee and dresses must have sleeves). Leggings are not pants and may not be worn unless under a dress or skirt that reaches the knee.

For Boys:
Gentlemen should wear dress pants with a polo, dress shirt and tie, or sweater. No jeans, sweatpants, shorts, or sweatshirts will be permitted.

For All:
The modesty guidelines in the student handbook should also be followed and students who disregard the guidelines may be asked to change for the duration of the day. If you have questions about the dress code for Picture Day, please contact the office.

PRAYER MATTERS BLOG

THANK YOU JESUS

“Thank You Jesus.” This simple phrase has been somewhat life-changing for me. I know I’ve heard it said before that giving thanks is a powerful way to change your mindset. And on some level, I even knew this to be true. But as in so many things, I am quick to forget.

Recently the reminder I needed came in the form of some advice spoken during an interview I heard. The question was, “What do you do when you feel overwhelmed, when you need to re-center yourself?” The answer? “Say, thank You Jesus.” It might be followed up immediately with “Help me Jesus”, but the point was that there is something about choosing to thank God right where you are that changes things. And being a person who’s always looking for new ideas and new things to try, I tried it. I specifically remember the moment - I was making my son’s bed in the midst of what my husband and I affectionately (or sometimes not so affectionately) call “the bedtime marathon”, and I had that all-too-familiar feeling like we were never going to get all of the kids to bed. Needless to say the exhaustion and discouragement felt strong. Suddenly I remembered the advice and just prayed “Thank You Jesus.” I thanked God for our beds, and in that moment the heaviness lifted. It was almost surprising what a difference it made, and how quickly it happened.

While I am certainly not expecting this phrase to become a magic button I can press to make everything better, I do hope I can remember for a longer time moving forward that thankfulness matters. That gratitude is powerful. It changes me, and I think it might even change the people around me. I wonder how the world might be changed if more of us started saying “Thank You Jesus.”

Pray with me…

Thank You Jesus…
… for each individual and family represented at Berks Christian School.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

Thank You Jesus…
… for each individual and family who helps to support Berks Christian School from afar.
Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. Psalm 95:2

Thank You Jesus…
… for providing daily for our needs.
Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Soli Deo Gloria
To God alone be the glory

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: UPDATE: No takers yet since last week, are you able to serve?

We are still in great need for Recess Parents: still need 1 Tuesday, 1 Wednesday, 1 Friday. Being a recess parent is a great way to connect with our students and build relationships with our school community. These volunteers are critical to keeping our students safe and cared for during lunch and recess. Thank you to our 7 parents who have already stepped up, 3 more to go! (We’ll take grandparent recess parents too!)

Thank you to our volunteers!

We’ve had a few people come and help out with a few projects around the building. Are you handy with tools and willing to donate a few hours? We’ve always got a few projects to work on!

Thank you to grandparent Eugene Denlinger who helped install some new swings in our playground and repair some of our desks.

Thank you to alumnus Kris Stutzman who helped with our mulching project and fixing a lot of our lab stools and chairs.

SUMMER READERS CELEBRATE

Each summer, we challenge our elementary students to read toward a goal - either a total number of books or pages - appropriate to their grade level. Many students take up this challenge heartily and we are always delighted to honor those who reached their goal. The prize for those who reached their grade-level goal is a picnic lunch at a local park, and playtime on the playground. Congratulations, elementary summer readers!
