For $.25, you can vote for your favorite. The winning color will be our t-shirt design for this year. Vote as many times as you like. Parents and teachers are welcome to vote as well. As of this publication, green is slightly in the lead!

Flyers were sent home last week, but if you arrive at Chick-fil-A without a flyer, just mention the Spirit Week when you check out and make sure the cashier applies your order to the fundraiser. It's not too late to cap off your week with a trip to Chick-fil-A and benefit BCS with your purchase!
Note about Library Fines
The BCS Library will not be collecting overdue fees for any items checked out before January 2017. If you did receive an automatic overdue fee notice from Renweb, that charge will be removed later this week. If you still see that showing up in your account by Monday, February 6th, please email Ben Smither (email@example.com).
Now that we have everything ready to go for 2nd semester, here's how the new system works:
Library Overdue Policy
- Students have a three week loan period, with the option to renew for another three weeks
- If an item is not returned on time, an automatic email reminder will be sent daily until the item is returned
- A $.05 fee per item per day will be charged, with a maximum fine of $1.00 per item
Congrats to Band Students!
Congratulations to Johnny (grade 8) and Joshua (grade 7) for being selected to be a part of the PMEA District 10 Intermediate Band Fest on Friday, March 31. Both boys have been playing their instruments (clarinet and trumpet, respectively) for many years and this is a huge accomplishment!
Incidental Billing: New Procedures
Below is an updated Incidental Fee Schedule for Berks Christian school. Our goal is to keep as many elements of our school program included in our tuition cost. However, there are a few situations where additional fees do apply and cannot be included.
One new fee to bring to your attention is post-event supervision for grades 6-12. Effective immediately, students in grades 6-12 will be charged for post-event supervision beginning at 3:00 pm each day, unless the student is staying for an authorized school event. Families will also incur the fee for any time 30 minutes past any official school event concludes. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
2016-2017 Incidental Fee Schedule
BCS charges families for incidental fees through the RenWeb Paynow (UPPM 8.12) and lunch ordering system. The details of charges and accounts can be found in RenWeb under family information-family billing.
After School Care (PreK-8) $5.35/hour
(For further details, please see UPPM 8.10 “After School Zone” This fee is a pro-rated charge by the half hour.)
Post-Event supervision (6-12) $5.35/hour
Students will be charged for after-school supervision beginning at 3:00 pm each day unless the student is staying for an authorized school event. Families will also be charged for time 30 minutes past any official school event concludes. This fee is a pro-rated charge by the half hour.
Before School Care (PreK only) $9/hour
Library/Locker/Technology Fines $.25 and up
Physical Education T-shirts $6.00
Uniform Shirts $15 (short-sleeve), $20 (long-sleeve)
Hot Lunch $4.50 (May be ordered through RenWeb or in homeroom daily)
Jump In and Join Us
If there are changes to your schedule, specifically regarding a change in pickup arrangement, please make an effort to contact the office before 12:00 noon. It is a challenge for office staff to find and notify students of end-of-day changes in the second half of the day, and many teachers do not have time to check their emails after lunch, so your messages may not be reaching them before dismissal. Thanks for your help!
A Request from ACSI
The following is a message from Association of Christian Schools International:
We are urging everyone to take a minute and encourage their Senators to confirm Betsy DeVos for Education Secretary:
It will only take about three minutes and will make a big difference!
President Donald Trump nominated Betsy DeVos to be his Secretary of Education. There is no question that DeVos is "an inspired choice" for Education Secretary — but for that very reason she faces a blizzard of opposition. Senators need to hear from voters at home, especially those who, like you, are education leaders. They also need to hear from your school community, people of goodwill, who are consumers of faith-based education.
It is important for the Christian school community to have an Education Secretary who will be receptive to our concerns. DeVos has roots in the Christian school community having graduated from a Christian high school and college. She spent a career pursuing parental choice in education so that all children will have education options no longer determined by zip code. Her work has been a boon to education as a whole and her unique perspective at the Education Department will be a breath of fresh air.
I invite you to help make an impact in the debate over the DeVos nomination. Time is of the essence, so I ask you to take action immediately. It's easy to weigh in and your voice is needed. As of February 1st, the nomination had only 50 votes and will require the Vice President to break the tie.

We are proud to congratulate seniors Trent Morris and Matt Follweiler on being our first BCS students to complete dual credit courses through our college partnership program.
Trent Morris reflected on the experience of taking a college-level course. "Altogether, the pace was very quick, as the course was compressed into a single quarter rather than a semester. However, I also learned quite a lot about Psychology that I didn't know before. Even though I don't have any plans to go further into the field, I still think it was a good experience. It was quite stressful at times, but in the end, I was satisfied with doing a good job."
Offering dual credit courses is one of the benefits of our recent accreditation. We are thankful for the addition of this rigorous element to our high school academic program and look forward to many more successful completions of these courses by future students.

She watches time passing, people coming and going, and the world changing around her. See the joys and sadnesses of one Little House and imagine the tale your own home might tell! This book, and others by Virginia Lee Burton, are available now in the Children's Fiction section of the BCS Library.
