Beginning Friday September 9, there will be a weekly meeting called "Praying Moms of BCS," open to any moms who would like to meet together and pray. The purpose of this group is to provide a place where moms can be mutually encouraged, get to know other moms better, and connect with God through prayer. No experience or training is required, simply a heart that desires to pray or be prayed for! Meetings take place from 8-8:30am in the music room each Friday. Bring your own coffee and/or morning beverage of choice if you'd like. Any questions, feel free to contact Carrie Warner, firstname.lastname@example.org.

Instrumental Lessons: Not too late to register!
Berks Christian School offers extensive private instrumental lessons, most of them during the school day. The following music lessons will be offered: piano or keyboard instruction for grades K – 12; all string instruments for grades 3 – 12; flute, clarinet, trumpet, baritone, drums and bells for grade 3; voice and band instruments for grades 4 - 12. A demonstration performance was provided for students in grades three through eight, and information about lessons, including a registration form, was sent home. If your child is interested in taking instrumental lessons this school year, please contact the school office to request a registration form.
TOMORROW: Orders Due for Polo Shirts
If you haven't ordered shirts yet, you have until TOMORROW to get your orders in. Print the order form (available here) and send it in to the school office by tomorrow morning. Our next order will not be until November.
If you have not acquired any polo shirts yet, please check our Used Uniform Closet. If you find nothing that will fit, students may wear khaki pants (or skirts for girls) along with any solid-color top until you receive your uniforms.
Last Chance for Referral Discount
Preschool starts in just eleven days! If you've got a friend or neighbor with a preschooler, encourage them to check out Berks Christian Preschool before we're full! Remember, if they enroll, you both get a tuition discount!
Making the Grade: New Grading Scale Effective Immediately
As announced at back to school night, we are adjusting our grading scale for 16-17 school year. The scale below is effective immediately. (GPA 4-point scale is only applicable for high school students) Additionally, current high school students will have their GPA recalculated with the new weighting system at the conclusion of the first semester.

Still Needed: Lunch/Recess Parent Volunteers!
If your schedule is flexible, make time for us! Volunteer to help out with lunch and recess supervision for our elementary students this year. We are still in need of four or five parents to join this important team. You'll get the chance to meet and hang out with other BCS parents (or consider signing up with a friend!) and to interact with our delightful elementary students. You will need to submit current background clearances. Please contact Rebekah Klase by emailing email@example.com for more info or to volunteer.
Parent Development Team Needs You!
BCS's Parent Development Team is led by Mrs Beth Bromwell, Director of Development, and meets once a month in the evening at a local coffee shop (in previous years we've met at the Starbucks in Exeter Target). It's a dynamic community of like-minded parents who are passionate about furthering the mission of Berks Christian School. Some duties include going out into the local community and passing out literature to local businesses, calling businesses to gauge interest, helping with fundraising events like Homecoming or Serve-A-Thon, organizing, and/or preparing food for fundraising events. If none of these areas fit you, there are other ways to help. Any help is appreciated, and you can be as involved as your schedule allows. Development and fundraising are an integral part of the work of Berks Christian School. With monies raised we are able to provide a better education for our current students while also providing scholarships for children to attend here who would otherwise not be able to do so.
If you are interested in being involved with the Parent Development Team, or if you have another way you would like to serve, please contact Beth by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 443-466-3191.
Lend a Hand for Homecoming
You've already reserved October 8th on your calendar for Homecoming, so why not help out while you're here that day! We need tons of helpers from manning the kids' activity areas to preparing food to helping out with the Quarter Auction. Being "on the inside" as a volunteer helper makes the day even more fun. Grab a friend and sign up together! Contact Mrs Bromwell by emailing email@example.com, or sign up here!
Donations Needed for Quarter Auction
No, we don't need donations of quarters. We need items to auction off, some for a bid of just one quarter! Know a local small business? Or have a skill or service to offer? We are looking for lots of donations for our annual Quarter Auction. Gift cards, specialty foods, services like lawn-mowing, and fun gifts like artwork are always popular items. If you have a donation, or a lead we could pursue, please email Beth Bromwell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Featured Library Book
Out of the Silent Planet, the first novel in C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy, is a fascinating scifi adventure. Written in 1938, the book contains creative speculation on what life might have been like in the rest of the solar system, weaving spirituality and the problem of sin into a story about an astronaut who voyages to Mars. I consider this novel (and its two sequels) the scifi version of Lewis' more famous work, The Chronicles of Narnia. If you enjoy that beloved fantasy series, read Out of the Silent Planet!
New Playground Mulch!
Thanks to some hard-working volunteers, our playground has a fresh new layer of playground mulch. This improves safety for our students and also makes for a more inviting area for playtime.
