Back to School Night: August 25th
Don't miss this kickoff to the school year on August 25th. Starting at 6:30, Back to School Night will begin with a presentation from our Head of School, Mr Warner. For the remainder of the evening, parents will have a chance to visit classrooms, meet teachers, and learn about what the school year will hold for your students. Be sure to bring your questions! Back to School Night is a feature event for parents, but there is no need for students to attend. If you need to bring students along, childcare is provided for elementary students.
On September 15th, we'll be hosting our second Cultivating Conversation event. This Parent Partnership Series gives parents guidance in engaging in cultural dialogue with their teens. Cultivating Conversation events are free and open to the first 30 parents who sign up. Our event on September 15th will focus on Politics and Citizenship. Contact Mr Warner by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like to be among the first to sign up!
News and Updates
Referrals and Hallways of Hope
It's crunch time for back to school decisions. Do you have a friend who's still on the fence? Please invite him or her to contact the school office for an educational consultation. If you refer a friend, neighbor, coworker, or anyone else you know, and they enroll, you will get a discount on your tuition, and so will the new family. Refer-a-Friend post cards are available in the school office. Give one to someone you know!
Hallways of Hope Scholarship Program
It's our second year offering the unique Hallways of Hope Scholarship Program and we're excited about making it possible for some new families to join our BCS community. The scholarship is for newly enrolling families who are suggested by a current member of the BCS community. Contact the office for literature you can use to share with friends about this scholarship. BCS still has Hallway of Hope openings in the following grades: K, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12. Share the gift of Christian Education today!
First Day of School: Dress Code
Many of you ordered our new BCS polo shirts and we were expecting their arrival by Monday. Unfortunately, our supplier had a shipping delay and the shirts will not be here until sometime later that week. To simplify things, the first day of school will be a Dress Down Day. Shorts are allowed (shorts must be finger-tip length or longer for girls). No hats or sleeveless shirts, please. If you have a t-shirt from a mission trip or vacation you took this summer, wear it! If you have additional questions about dress code, please email Brittany Mountz at email@example.com or call the school office.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
School starts in just six days! Whether you're a new family or returning for your tenth year, please take a few minutes to review our drop-off and pick-up policies.
Morning Procedures for Parents
Morning drop off for students is between 7:30 am and 7:55 am. Classes begin at 8:00.
When you pull up, please do not stop directly in front of the main lobby doors. Pull at least one car’s-length past the door so that as cars pull up behind you, they are also able to unload.
When possible, do not get out of your vehicle. Secondary students should get out of the car unassisted. If you are helping an elementary student, please do so quickly so that the line can keep moving.
If you have any reason to come into the building, do not pull up at the curb. Instead, park in the back or along the side (between the two buildings) and walk to the front lobby doors. Do not use the parking lot across the street from the lobby as this causes dangerous foot traffic across Philadelphia Ave.
Do not, under any circumstances, pull around the vehicle in front of you. Our school sits on a two-lane public road and though there isn't a yellow line running down the middle of the road, pulling around a vehicle parked in front of you constitutes driving in the opposing lane of traffic and is extremely dangerous.
Afternoon Procedures for Parents
Classes end at 2:45 pm. Buses will line up along the curb for pickup and will depart by 2:50. Until 2:50, please park in the main parking lot to wait. After buses pull away, parent vehicles may pull up to the curb in front of the main lobby.
Please pull up where directed. Two teachers will be on duty each afternoon, one to direct vehicles outside, and one to dismiss students from the lobby.
When possible, do not get out of your vehicle. If you need to help your child, please do so quickly so that the line can keep moving.
Parents should not enter the building to pick up their child, but should get in the car line in their vehicle. If you have an extenuating circumstance that requires you to come into the building at dismissal time, notify the school office, as you would during school hours. Park in the back or along the side (between the two buildings) and walk to the front lobby doors. Do not use the parking lot across the street from the lobby as this causes dangerous foot traffic across Philadelphia Ave.
Reminder: Do not, under any circumstances, pull around the vehicle in front of you. Our school sits on a two-lane public road and though there isn't a yellow line running down the middle of the road, pulling around a vehicle parked in front of you constitutes driving in the opposing lane of traffic and is extremely dangerous.
One Last Chance to Order Uniforms!
We've gotten a lot of requests for another chance to order BCS polo shirts, so we're making it happen! If you haven't ordered shirts yet, you have until September 2nd to get your orders in. Print the order form (available here) and send it in to the school office by September 2nd.
If you have not acquired any polo shirts yet, please check our Used Uniform Closet either before school begins or on Back to School Night. If you find nothing that will fit, students may wear khaki pants (or skirts for girls) along with any solid-color top until you receive your uniforms.
Brand New: Lunches from Exeter Township School District
New this year, Berks Christian School will be offering hot school lunches provided by Exeter Township School District. Lunch cost will be $4.50 and will include an entree, vegetables and sides, fresh fruit, and white milk. Due to Exeter's schedule, lunch will not be available until August 29th, so please plan to pack lunch for August 25th and 26th. The first menus will be in your Back to School Night packet.

Still Needed: Lunch/Recess Parent Volunteers!
If your schedule is flexible, make time for us! Volunteer to help out with lunch and recess supervision for our elementary students this year! We are still in need of four or five parents to join this important team. You'll get the chance to meet and hang out with other BCS parents (or consider signing up with a friend!) and to interact with our delightful elementary students. You will need to submit current background clearances. Please contact Rebekah Klase by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org for more info or to volunteer.
New Books in our Library!
Bekah Smith, a BCS alum who's heading to Kutztown University in a few days to pursue a degree in Library Science, has spent a few days with us this summer cataloging new books for our library. We've got a great collection of fiction and nonfiction for high schoolers, as well as lots of new material in our children and junior collections.
