TONIGHT: Nutrition Info Session
We know that in today's world it is a struggle to make the healthy choices when they are so many unhealthy choices. We will be hosting an information session on Thursday, October 13th at 7pm for a local nurse to share the results of the survey distributed to BCS families and to give resources on nutrition to parents. Childcare will be provided. Please RSVP to Rebekah Klase (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Grandparents Day: November 23rd
Make sure your grandparents save the date! November 23rd, a half-day of school, is our annual Grandparents Day. We are looking forward to this event and have some great activities planned. Grandparents will be receiving invitations in the mail from their grandkids, so if the grandparents in your family have moved, or if you're a new family to BCS this year, please email Miss Klase (email@example.com) with the appropriate addresses.
Middle School Retreat
On October 27th, our entire Middle School will be spending the day at Camp Manatawny for our annual Spiritual Life Retreat. Trevor Oates, youth pastor at Birdsboro Church of the Nazarene, will be speaking to students for the day. All sixth through eighth graders should bring a Bible, a pen, a packed lunch, and a snack to share. Dress is casual, but time will be spent outdoors so make sure to dress for the weather! Students will return to BCS to be picked up by parents at 9:00 pm.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Coming up on November 7 and 8: Parent Teacher Conferences! We assign conference times to all elementary families, and all families who are new to BCS. If you received the link to the Beat today via your email, you can find the conference schedule attached to that email. Elementary teachers will be communicating directly with families to remind you of your assigned conference time. Please let the office know if you have any questions.
News and Updates
We are thrilled to announce the financial success of our 2016 Homecoming event. We raised nearly $8,000, which was just shy of our goal. A huge thanks to all of our volunteers and helpers, and especially to our donors who contributed food to sell and items to auction off. Below are a few snapshots from the auction and volleyball games. Check out our facebook page for lots more pictures.
Mr Warner has made a video to help you learn how to use Renweb's PayNow system. It's about four minutes long, and walks you through the process of making a payment.
Parent Alert this Morning
An important part of our communication with parents is our Parent Alert system. Parent Alert messages are sent as recorded phone messages and text messages when we have urgent news to share with you. This might be when there's a weather-related delay or closure, when a last-minute change has been made to a school-wide event, or in the case of an emergency affecting the entire student body. We ran a test of the Parent Alert system this morning to remind you of this evening's Nutrition Info Session. If you didn't receive the alert this morning, you may need to log in to Renweb and correct your settings. You can do this under the Family Information tab in ParentsWeb. Click on Family Profile, then click on the tab near the top that says "Preferences."

Open Your Home for Ten Weeks?
From January 6th through March 15th, five students from Asia will be attending Berks Christian School for a short-term cross-cultural experience. Five host families are needed for this program and host families will earn a stipend of $1,000. If you can open your home to a student this winter, please contact Rebekah Klase by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Library Volunteers Needed
Our Library continues to grow in size and its use. We need a few volunteers who would give an hour or two a month to our library to help restock books, put new books and materials into circulation and to keep the shelves organized. We'll do the training if you have the interest. Contact Phil Warner if you can lend a hand minding the books! email@example.com.
Wednesday Lunch Help Needed
If your schedule is flexible, make time for us! Volunteer to help out with lunch and recess supervision for our elementary students this year. We are still in need of a few parents, specifically on Wednesdays, to join this important team. You'll get the chance to meet and hang out with other BCS parents (or consider signing up with a friend!) and to interact with our delightful elementary students. You will need to submit current background clearances. Please contact Rebekah Klase by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org for more info or to volunteer.
Featured Library Book: Sherlock, Lupin, and Me Series
"While on summer vacation, little Irene Adler meets a young William Sherlock Holmes. The two share stories of pirates and have battles of wit while running wild on the sunny streets and rooftops. When Sherlock’s friend, Lupin, joins in on the fun, they all become fast friends. But the good times end abruptly when a dead body floats ashore on the nearby beach. The young detective trio will have to put all three of their heads together to solve this mystery." This is how amazon.com summarizes the first book in the Sherlock, Lupin, and Me series. The BCS Library has four books in this junior fiction series, and all are available now! Check them out!
